2024 Fantasy Baseball: Pitchers to Target on the Waiver Wire (Week 10)

Injuries have been the theme among pitchers over the last two weeks. Clarke Schmidt, Joe Musgrove, and Yu Darvish are just a few of the notable pitchers who’ve landed on the IL in that stretch. So, which pitchers could help the void. Here’s a look at five pitchers to consider targeting on the fantasy baseball wire as we head into Week 10.

Yimi Garcia

We start our Week 10 fantasy baseball waiver wire pitcher list with Yimi Garcia, who should be in line for saves in Toronto with Jordan Romano. And, Garcia did nab his first save since April 15 on June 2, even though he yielded a run against the visiting Pirates.

Garcia has been excellent when it comes to inducing chases and weak contact and particularly with the former. His 38.3% Chase rate is in the 99th percentile per Statcast.

Reed Garrett

Speaking of vulture saves, Reed Garrett may be in line for saves in New York with Edwin Diaz on the IL. Yes, Garrett had a rough May, as his 6.08 ERA in the month came amidst a flurry of rough outings, including on May 24 when he gave up five earned runs against the Giants.

Still, Garrett nailed down the save on May 30 and should be the Mets’ prime high-leverage reliever. He will have to contend with Adam Ottavino, though, who has recorded less-than-stellar results despite good overall metrics.

Jake Irvin

Nationals pitcher Jake Irvin did something on June 2 that he didn’t in almost two months: win a game. Irvin recorded his second win of 2024 against the Guardians, his first since April 17 against the Dodgers. Irvin could be considered unlucky, as the righty gave up two or fewer earned runs in four of his last five starts.

Irvin’s yielded good results in 2024 thanks to an eclectic arsenal that includes a sinker with life and above-average movement per Statcast, as well as a curveball that he’ll leverage in the zone often and get away with it thanks in part to slurvish-like horizontal movement. And, he limits the walks, as he owns a 1.03 WHIP and 4.4 BB%.

Michael Lorenzen

Yet again in 2024, we debate Michael Lorenzen‘s value in fantasy baseball. The 32-year-old threw 6.1 scoreless frames on June 1, the fourth straight start in which Lorenzen threw six or more innings and yielded two or fewer runs. And in that stretch, Lorenzen lowered his ERA and WHIP from 2.96 and 1.17, respectively.

With Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer, Cody Bradford, and Tyler Mahle sidelined, Lorenzen — who’s made a living off giving opposing hitters different looks and changing speeds — should be in the Rangers rotation and worth a look in fantasy leagues.

Tylor Megill

Since returning from the IL, Tylor Megill‘s looked about as good as he has in two years. The 28-year-old threw seven scoreless innings on May 28 against the Dodgers and struck out nine. It marked the second start that Megill recorded at least seven punchouts. On the year, Megill owns a 1.69 ERA and good Whiff% (30.4%) and K% (31.3%) numbers in his brief campaign.

Between his mid-90s fastball that plays up thanks to plus extension and a new splitter learned via Kodai Senga, Megill has the stuff to be a serious name to watch. This upcoming week, Megill will face the Nationals on June 3.
