Out of all the ACC baseball teams last season, Boston College was, arguably, the surprise of the year. BC wound up blowing through expectations, spending time last year as a ranked team and, ultimately, making the 2026 NCAA tournament. But in 2027, the Eagles won’t sneak up on anyone.
The Returnees
The 2026 Eagles didn’t have a ton of pop in that roster. Only one player, Nick Wang, had 10+ home runs for BC last season. Instead, Boston College was more of a chaos team, relying on contact and on-base strength to manufacture runs. And perhaps the best player in that regard, Julio Solier, is back for his junior campaign.
Last year, Solier led Boston College with 84 hits, and his 57 runs scored also led the team. High-contact hitter, he showed that in the Cape Cod League with a low 15.2% Whiff%. However, Solier also struck out a good amount, with 45 strikeouts over 59 games last year. His Take% tendency, which does help with walks, explains that.

Aside from Solier, Ty Mainolfi and Luke Gallo are also back for the 2027 season. Mainolfi, like Solier, is one of those high-contact hitters who had a sub-20% Whiff% in the Cape, and racked up 75 hits during the regular season for BC. He also likes to work counts, although Mainolfi’s tendency is not as high compared to Solier.
Gallo, meanwhile, batted .325 with a .434 on-base percentage as a regular for Boston College. And he did so as a freshman.
Moving on, Danny Surowiec, Ben Williams, Cesar Gonzalez, and Collin Larson all returned for 2027.
As for the pitching staff, AJ Colarusso went pro after his senior season, signing with the New York Mets as a UDFA. However, the school did retain Brady Miller, now a junior and a pitcher who punched out 62 over 56 innings as a sophomore for BC last year.
Gonzalez, who worked as a reliever last season, plus Gavin Soares, Jacob Burnham, Chase Hartsell, and Luke D’Ancona, all of whom saw significant innings for the Eagles.
The Newcomers
Looking at the roster, there is one familiar last name, and that would be now-grad student Jeremy Sheffield.
Jeremy, the son of Gary Sheffield, didn’t log much time with Orleans in the Cape Cod League this past summer. However, Sheffield was one of the more valuable hitters for Georgetown in the Big East last season. He finished second on the team in hits (68) and drove in a team-high 47 runs for the Hoyas.
Boston College’s roster also includes 13 new freshmen. JJ Drennan, from the New Jersey prep scene, showcased a low-90s fastball while in school. The same could mostly be said for Ohio product Jack Ryan.
