We’re done with the first full week of both the 2026 MLB and fantasy baseball seasons. Obviously, it’s a small sample size, meaning some things have to be taken with a grain of salt. But with a week of info in, here’s a look at our hitter waiver wire hitter recommendations for Week 2 of the 2026 fantasy baseball campaign.
Best Week 2 hitters to target
- C Francisco Alvarez (Mets)
- 3B/SS Carlos Correa (Astros)
- 2B/SS Andres Gimenez (Blue Jays)
- 3B Max Muncy (Dodgers)
- 1B/OF Ryan O’Hearn (Pirates)
We’ll start with Francisco Alvarez, the Mets catcher who has gotten to his power over the first week and a half. Three home runs for the backstop, two of which came in one game against the Giants this past weekend.
There’s always been 20-25 home run potential with Alvarez. It’s mainly been a matter of health and consistency with his approach. So far, so good with Alvarez this season.
Next up is Carlos Correa. Correa is still available in many leagues, and the reality is that he probably shouldn’t be. Aside from dual eligibility between third and short, Correa has been sharp to begin the year. He ended play on April 5 with a .263 average, five walks, and eight RBI. The 31-year-old has been wedged in the middle of the Astros’ lineup, a perfect spot.
Just like 2025, Andres Gimenez started 2026 off with a bang. Gimenez hit well in the cleanup spot — yes, that happened last year — early on last season before he hit a skid offensively. He never really recovered but things have been productive for the shortstop this season.
Nine hits, second-most on the Jays behind Ernie Clement, a home run, and two stolen bases for Gimenez thus far. Look, it would be unwise to expect Gimenez to put offensive numbers as he did in 2022 and 2023. However, Gimenez has speed and consistently makes contact. And, if he can put himself in a position to get on base, he could get a quiet resource for runs scored.
Toronto has placed Gimenez at the bottom of the Jays’ lineup thus far.
Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy has yet to have that “big” stretch that he’s been known to have at times throughout his career. The good news is that Muncy is a solid option for third base, even in not-so-deep leagues.
Lastly, Ryan O’Hearn hit very well to start the year. O’Hearn entered play on April 5 with nine hits and two home runs. And he added a third shot to his 2026 ledger on the 5th against the Orioles.
Overview of Week 1
We tried to tell you about Chase DeLauter.
After a strong spring, DeLauter came out of the gate hot and currently sits at the top of the MLB home run leaderboard. We’ll see where this goes for DeLauter, who’s had his injury troubles over the years. But so far, the Guardians outfielder has the potential to be a breakout star in fantasy this season.
As for the rest of the list, TJ Friedl and Carson Benge entered play on April 5 in the bottom 20 of the Majors in total hits among players with 20+ plate appearances. Benge went 0-13 in his first five April games, and he’s been very aggressive at the dish. Far more than he was in the Minors.
Consider it growing pains and be cautious with Benge. Friedl, meanwhile, is a veteran who’s put up serviceable numbers on a consistent basis.
Samuel Basallo also came into play with a sub-.200 average. However, just because a player had a bad week does not mean to give up, especially in this early stage of the year.
