Another week has passed us by in fantasy baseball. We saw some hitters break out of slumps, and several pitchers have had fantastic weeks. One of those pitchers was Joey Cantillo, who made our Week 3 fantasy baseball pitcher waiver wire target list for 2026.
Best Week 3 pitchers to target
- SP Javier Assad (Cubs)
- SP Mike Burrows (Astros)
- SP Joey Cantillo (Guardians)
- SP Grant Holmes (Braves)
- RP Jakob Junis (Rangers)
During the MLB preseason, we highlighted two very interesting Guardians pitchers as names to watch. One was Parker Messick, and the other was Joey Cantillo.
Messick, listed in our rookie pitcher watch list, had yet another fantastic outing against Atlanta this past weekend and has become one of baseball’s best chase pitchers in the early goings. In most leagues, Messick is gone.
Cantillo, though, is available in more leagues. On our potential breakout pitcher list, Cantillo struck out nine against the Royals and worked the curveball and changeup to great effect against a team filled with good right-handed hitters. In his last start, his swing-and-miss rate off the changeup was over 60%.
The lefty will likely get two starts this upcoming week, making him a premier option in weekly head-to-head leagues.
As for the other two-start pitchers to target this week, Grant Holmes will get a home start against the Marlins and, likely, a road start against the Phillies. Holmes hasn’t been an elite strikeout pitcher in 2026 to this point but does have a good chance to get a win over the next week.
Mike Burrows’ funny start to 2026 doesn’t concern us too much, although the new Astro has given up three home runs to this point this season. He’ll round out the four-game set in Seattle before tentatively facing the Cardinals at home this weekend.
Javier Assad, back in the Cubs’ rotation, is also lined up for two starts. He’s the one we’re least excited about, simply because Assad doesn’t get a ton of misses. Still, he’s someone to consider in deeper leagues, as Assad is set to face the Phillies and Cubs this week.
Lastly, Jakob Junis picked up his third save of the 2026 season on April 12. He’s become the latest reliever to get saves in Texas over the last two seasons.
Overview of Week 2
For those who listened to us and picked up Michael Wacha, you’re welcome.
Wacha was sensational over the past week with a sparkling .60 ERA over the last week across two starts. Oh, and Wacha picked up two wins, which is even more important.
Emerson Hancock didn’t put up an A+ performance in his last start against the Astros. However, he struck out five over five and didn’t put up terrible numbers. Hancock is still a must-hold at this point.
Andrew Painter was the one who had the most disappointing week. Painter struggled against the Giants earlier in the week and never had a chance to make up for it. The rookie missed his scheduled start on April 12 thanks to a migraine.
