Several players who were scheduled to play on February 27 in Arizona did not. Rafael Devers was removed just before the Giants’ scheduled contest against the Los Angeles Dodgers, while Corey Seager was scratched thanks to an illness.
Devers scratched
The Giants scratched Rafael Devers late on February 27. Devers was scheduled to bat second and play first base for San Francisco. Instead, it was prospect Bryce Eldridge who drew in against the Dodgers.
Per reports, it was due to a tight hamstring.
It would have been Devers’ fourth game of the spring had he played. The Giants’ first baseman/designated hitter is 0-8 in Cactus League action with four strikeouts.
Seager dealing with illness
Rangers shortstop Corey Seager was also scratched from the team’s game against the Chicago White Sox. Seager is dealing with an illness.
The veteran shortstop went 1-7 thus far in limited action this spring.
In other related news for the Rangers, Josh Jung is expected back for the Rangers on March (h/t Dallas Morning News). Jung was temporarily sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Zack Wheeler, who threw a bullpen session on the 26th, could be back as early as early April, per Phillies manager Rob Thomson.
White Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi was scratched from this team’s game against the Texas Rangers with right side soreness.
Per the New York Times, an MRI on Royce Lewis came back clean after he was scratched from the Twins’ lineup on February 26 with an oblique injury. He did not play on February 27 for the Twins, who faced the New York Yankees in Fort Myers.
