It was a tough day for the Reds, who not only lost their second straight game to the Cubs via a walk-off on May 6 but also their closer. Plus, Astros infielder Carlos Correa was unable to go for the team against the Dodgers.
Correa a late scratch
Astros infielder Carlos Correa was scratched from the team’s lineup against the Dodgers on May 5.
Correa is dealing with a left ankle injury, per the team.
Clean MRI for Ryan
Per reports, including from the New York Times, an MRI on Joe Ryan‘s elbow didn’t reveal any structural damage. This news comes two days after he was removed from his start against the Blue Jays.
He’s scheduled to throw a bullpen session on May 6.
Pagan removed from game
Reds reliever Emilio Pagan suffered a hamstring injury on May 5, which caused him to be carted off the field.
Pagan is slated to be moved to the IL on the 6th. (h/t New York Times).
IL placements
Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth was placed on the 7-day IL with concussion symptoms.
Astros catcher Yainer Diaz was placed on the 10-day IL with an oblique injury.
Rays pitcher Steven Matz was added to the 15-day IL with left elbow inflammation.
Josh Smith was placed on the IL with a right glute strain.
Cardinals infielder Ramon Urias was placed on the IL with right elbow lateral epicondylitis.
Rehab assignments
The Astros’ Triple-A affiliate had three rehabbing pitchers: Tatsuya Imai, Josh Hader, and Nate Pearson. Imai walked five but allowed one run over three innings (63 pitches). Josh Hader struck out one over a scoreless inning, while Nate Pearson walked three over 0.2 IP.
Imai averaged 95 MPH on his fastball, while Hader averaged 94 MPH on his two-seamer.
Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodon went 6.1 IP (83 pitches) for Triple-A Scranton. Rodon averaged 93 MPH and surrendered two home runs.
Additionally, Gerrit Cole struck out four and surrendered two home runs for High-A Hudson Valley.
Other notes
Brewers reliever Angel Zerpa will require UCL reconstruction surgery and is done for the rest of 2026.
Roman Anthony, who left the Red Sox’s game against the Tigers on the 4th, was diagnosed with a wrist sprain.
