The Blue Jays’ injury troubles surrounding the rotation continued earlier this week. Cody Ponce suffered a knee injury on March 30, which prompted an early exit in his first regular-season start back in the MLB. And, it looks like he’ll be out for a while.
Ponce placed on IL
Blue Jays pitcher Cody Ponce was placed on the 15-day IL with an ACL sprain.
Per manager John Schneider, Ponce is expected to miss significant time. The announcement came one day after Ponce suffered the injury while attempting to field a ground ball.
Cardinals lose reliever
The Cardinals placed relief pitcher Matt Pushard on the 15-day IL with right knee patellar tendinitis. It’s retroactive to March 30.
Pushard was a Rule 5 pick this past winter.
Rodon dealing with hamstring injury
Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodon has been dealing with hamstring tightness, per manager Aaron Boone.
It’s a separate issue from the elbow surgery recovery, which is the reason why Rodon is on the IL. The Yankees left-hander was able to throw on the 31st with no problems.
Rehab assignments
The Brewers sent two players to Triple-A Nashville for rehab assignments. Outfielder Steward Berroa went 2-5 for the Sounds, while Rob Zastryzny struck out one over a scoreless inning.
Cardinals pitcher Hunter Dobbins struck out three over five innings with Triple-A Memphis. Dobbins averaged 95 MPH against Norfolk.
In that same game, Jackson Holliday picked up two hits for the Tides. Holliday started at second base but came out in the eighth inning.
Royals infielder Michael Massey went 1-5 for Triple-A Omaha.
Guardians pitcher Hunter Gaddis threw a scoreless inning for Triple-A Columbus. Additionally, outfielder George Valera was sent to the Clippers on a rehab assignment.
Vaughn Grissom (Angels), Adrian Del Castillo (Diamondbacks), J.P. Crawford (Mariners), Blaine Crim & Zac Veen (Rockies) were also sent out on rehab assignments to Triple-A.
Other news
Guardians outfielder Chase DeLauter exited the team’s game on March 31 after he fouled a ball off his left foot.
Zach Eflin is expected to land on the injured list, per Orioles manager Zach Eflin. Eflin left his start on March 31 thanks to elbow discomfort.
