Rafael Devers’ blistering hot second half came to a close on September 13. The Giants infielder will miss the final two weeks of the 2026 season due to season-ending surgery. That was just one piece of injury-related news on the day.

Devers done for 2026

Giants first baseman Rafael Devers was placed on the 60-day IL with a core muscle injury. It will require season-ending surgery (h/t NBC Bay Area).

It ends what was a hot month and year overall for Devers. He hit 13 home runs over the last month and finished his first full year in San Francisco with 37 total homers.

IL moves

The Marlins placed outfielder Owen Caissie on the 10-day IL with a lumbar stress reaction.

Red Sox infielder Anthony Seigler was placed on the 10-day IL with right wrist inflammation.

Orioles pitcher Kyle Bradish was placed on the 15-day IL with lower abdominal discomfort.

Tanner Banks (Phillies), Xavier Edwards (Marlins), and Willson Contreras (Red Sox) were activated off the injured list.

Rehab assignments

The Angels had two rehabbers with Triple-A Salt Lake. Reliever Sam Bachman struck out two over one inning. First baseman Nolan Schanuel went 0-for-3 with a strikeout.

Rangers catcher Kyle Higashioka went 1-for-5 with a walk and a strikeout for Triple-A Round Rock.

Rays reliever Manuel Rodriguez struck out one and walked one over a scoreless inning for Triple-A Durham.

Rockies pitcher Jose Quintana allowed three earned runs and five hits over 2.1 IP, striking out one, for Triple-A Albuquerque. Quintana tossed 47 pitches.

Orioles outfielder Christian Franklin went 1-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts for Triple-A Norfolk.

Other notes

Rangers pitcher Cal Quantrill, who threw 70 pitches over six innings on the 13th, dealt with back tightness, per manager Skip Schumaker.

Freddie Freeman (knee) won’t play on the 14th, per manager Dave Roberts.

Kaelen Culpepper (shoulder) did not play on September 13.
