Blue Jays pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann has dealt with a lot of injury-related adversity throughout his pro career. He faced more this month, as the Blue Jays have temporarily shut him down due to elbow soreness. It’s one of several injury-related notes from February 24.
Diaz to return this week
Per the Houston Chronicle, Astros C/1B Yainer Diaz will DH for Houston on February 25 and then catch two days later.
Diaz has been slowed in camp thanks to a foot sprain that he sustained over the winter.
Tiedemann dealing with elbow soreness
Yet again, Ricky Tiedemann is dealing with an injury issue.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider stated that Tiedemann will be shut down for a week after he experienced left elbow soreness. The good news for both him and the Jays is that an MRI revealed no structural damage.
The left-hander missed all of 2025 thanks to UCL reconstruction surgery recovery.
Tiedemann is not the only young pitcher for the Jays dealing with injury problems. Chay Yeager, one of the best swing-and-miss pitchers in High-A last season and a non-roster invite for Toronto, may need surgery after he felt soreness during a live BP session.
Walcott had brace surgery
The Texas Rangers announced that prospect Sebastian Walcott had elbow surgery to repair the torn UCL ligament that he suffered before the start of the spring.
However, Walcott had an internal brace, and Texas noted in its announcement that his surgery comes with a five-to-six-month recovery window. Should Walcott come in on the lower end of that window, it does leave open the possibility of him returning later in the 2026 season.
Other notes
Rays manager Kevin Cash stated that Chandler Simpson, who is dealing with a hamstring injury, could play this week.
Marlins infielder Graham Pauley stated that he should be back in game action soon after dealing with a forearm issue.
