Chicago received relatively good news on closer Daniel Palencia, who is currently on the injured list. Plus, the Rangers scratched starter Nathan Eovaldi on what was supposed to be a daytime start versus the Padres on the 20th.
Eovaldi scratched
The Rangers scratched Nathan Eovaldi from his scheduled start on June 20 with left knee soreness.
However, the good news is that Eovaldi will likely start on the 21st, per manager Skip Schumaker.
Palencia dealing with flexor strain
The Cubs announced that Daniel Palencia, on the injured list, was diagnosed with a minor flexor strain after an MRI.
Palencia will be shut down for roughly one week.
IL moves
The Diamondbacks placed two players on the IL. One of those was Michael Soroka, who was removed from his start on the 19th. Soroka landed on the injured list with a left glute strain.
Additionally, Jordan Lawlar is back on the injured list, this time with a right hamstring strain.
Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman landed on the 7-day IL with a concussion.
A’s reliever Mark Leiter Jr. was placed on the injured list with a right hip impingement.
Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen was put on the IL with right elbow inflammation.
Red Sox utilityman Isiah Kiner-Falefa was placed on the 10-day IL with left forearm inflammation.
Rehab assignments
Elly De La Cruz went 0-3 with a strikeout for Triple-A Louisville. He was the DH for the Bats.
Cubs pitcher Matthew Boyd struck out seven over four scoreless innings (59 pitches) for High-A South Bend.
Mets infielder Ronny Mauricio went 1-4 with a strikeout for Triple-A Syracuse.
Braves reliever Danny Young struck out two over one scoreless inning for the team’s FCL affiliate.
Other notes
Yankees pitcher Max Fried will begin throwing live BP sometime between late June and early July (h/t Newsday).
