After over two weeks, the Red Sox lost a baseball game. Boston both extended and lost their win streak on July 22, part of a lengthy slate of games that featured two doubleheaders thanks to bad weather one day earlier on the East Coast.
Red Sox’s win streak snapped
The Red Sox won their 15th straight game during the first game of their doubleheader against the Orioles.
Jake Bennett navigated trouble, as he allowed two earned runs despite nine hits allowed. Boston put up six on Dean Kremer, one of which came off Ceddanne Rafaela‘s ninth home run of the season.
But in the second game, Kyle Bradish allowed one earned run over six innings, and the Orioles won 5-1.
Pirates, Yankees split DH
RBI singles for Jared Triolo and Jake Mangum drove in the runs Pittsburgh needed to win Game 1 of their doubleheader with the Yankees, 5-3.
The Pirates had a three-run lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. But later that inning, Ben Rice hit a three-run shot off Carmen Mlodzinski for his 30th home run of the season.
Max Fried, fresh off the IL, struck out seven over five scoreless innings. Bubba Chandler also threw scoreless ball for the Pirates over 6.1 IP. But in the seventh, Jasson Dominguez drove in the game-winning run off a double. Anthony Volpe drove in Dominguez later that inning.
The Yankees won 2-0.
Dodgers take series from Philly
Eric Lauer and the Dodgers defeated the Phillies 9-4.
Dalton Rushing and Max Muncy each hit home runs. For Muncy, it was his 20th home run of the season. Overall, the Dodgers had 11 hits. Freddie Freeman and Tommy Edman had three each.
Alec Bohm and Bryan De La Cruz hit home runs for the Phillies.
Perez tied KC HR record
Down 3-0 into the bottom of the seventh, a five-run inning for the Royals helped Kansas City win 5-4.
Salvador Perez hit a two-run home run in the seventh to make it a one-run game. That home run tied George Brett for the franchise home run (317) record. Nick Loftin tied it with an RBI single later on, and Lane Thomas‘ two-run single gave the Royals a 5-3 lead.
Casey Schmitt hit his 20th home run of the season, a solo shot in the ninth.
Tigers pick up big win
Keider Montero and the Tigers bested the Cubs 5-1, as Detroit scored five unanswered runs throughout the game after Seiya Suzuki‘s first-inning home run.
Spencer Torkelson tied the game with a solo shot in the second. In the fourth, Hao-Yu Lee belted a three-run home run off Colin Rea to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead.
Montero struck out eight over 5.1 IP to notch his seventh win of 2026.
