The second Saturday of the 2026 MLB season brought blowout victories and spectacular pitching performances. But perhaps the most notable story from the day was, quite possibly, the best defensive performance that we saw in the league this season, courtesy of Jo Adell.

Adell steals the show in LA

Perhaps the biggest story to come out of the 4th was Jo Adell‘s otherworldly performance in the outfield. The Angels won 1-0, thanks to Adell robbing the Mariners of three home runs.

It started early, as Adell snared a home run away from Cal Raleigh in the first inning. It would have been Raleigh’s first home run of the season had it left. Later on, Adell took one away from Josh Naylor in almost the same spot. And in the final inning, J.P. Crawford became the last victim of Adell.

A solo home run from Zach Neto was all the Angels needed offensively. Jack Kochanowicz continued his strong start to 2026, as he struck out seven over 5.2 scoreless frames.

Imai gets first MLB win

The Astros defeated the Athletics 11-0. It was a complete performance from the Astros, both at the plate and on the mound.

Christian Walker and Cam Smith both hit home runs on the day. Walker was one of four Astros to pick up three hits. Joey Loperfido, Yainer Diaz, and Christian Vazquez did, as well. And on the mound, Tatsuya Imai struck out nine to pick up his first Major League victory.

Athletics starter Luis Morales walked six in the loss.

Pirates walk it off

The Pirates improved to 5-3 after a 3-2 victory over the Orioles. It gave Pittsburgh the season series victory over Baltimore.

Nick Yorke was the hero, as he picked up a walk-off single in the ninth. Ryan Helsley, who took the loss, nearly caught Yorke looking on a potential called strike three but it was not called. Helsley tried to challenge. However, the O’s had no challenges left.

Adley Rutschman picked up two more hits to improve his batting average to .333.

Detroit powers way to victory

The Tigers defeated the Cardinals 11-6.

Detroit’s offense came through in a big way. Kerry Carpenter hit his first home run of the season in the first inning. Gleyber Torres, Matt Vierling, and Zach McKinstry also hit homers for the Tigers.

It was not a good day for the starters. Dustin May gave up seven runs over 3.2 IP, while Jack Flaherty only lasted four innings.

Other notes

The Brewers and Royals split their doubleheader on April 4.

Clay Holmes and the Mets shut out the Giants on April 4. It was a mixed day for the NL East teams, as the Marlins lost an early lead to the Yankees, while the Braves and Nationals also lost. Philadelphia, thanks to superb pitching by Jesus Luzardo, beat the Rockies 2-1.

Cincinnati’s pitching shut out the Rangers 2-0.

Steven Matz struck out eight for the Rays, who defeated the Twins 7-1.

The Padres got back on track with a 3-2 victory over the Red Sox. Miguel Andujar had three hits on the day.

Munetaka Murakami and Colson Montgomery went deep for the White Sox, who defeated the Blue Jays 6-3.
