Thanks to some cold weather across the Midwest and Northeast, there was action all day on April 7. We nearly saw it all on the 7th, from first home runs of the year, to walkoffs, and yes, even a bench-clearing brawl.

Recaps from day games

A couple of walk-offs during the rescheduled day games on April 7. The Guardians beat the Royals in the bottom of the ninth, while a Ronny Mauricio single ended the Mets-Diamondbacks game in Flushing.

Meanwhile, in Chicago, the Orioles left plenty of runners on base in the early innings of this contest. However, the O’s scraped three runs in the eighth to beat the White Sox 4-2. Ace Trevor Rogers (27) led the day in total swings outside of the strike zone induced.

Night game recaps

Paul Skenes and the Pirates won 7-1. Skenes struck out six, even though he didn’t pick up many called strikes and whiffs (28.7%).

Amed Rosario hit two home runs for the Yankees on April 7. New York hit former Yankee Mark Leiter Jr. in the eighth to secure a comeback victory.

The Rockies, thanks in part to a two-run home run from Willi Castro, defeated the Astros 5-1.

Pete Crow-Armstrong hit his first home run of 2026, and the Cubs picked up 16 hits against the Rays in a 9-2 victory.

Garrett Crochet and the Red Sox were able to hold off Jacob Misiorowski, 3-2, on April 7.

The Cardinals scored two in the top of the tenth to pick up a 7-6 victory over the Nationals.

Cincinnati scored all six of their runs after the eighth inning. The Reds defeated the Marlins in extras, 6-3.

Taj Bradley outdueled Tarik Skubal, thanks to a four-run fifth inning by the Twins. Minnesota won 4-2.

Nathan Eovaldi (46.8% Whiff%) was back on course, as he struck out seven for the Rangers in a 3-2 victory over Seattle. The Mariners are now 4-8 to begin the season.

Lastly, the Dodgers defeated the Blue Jays 4-2. Yoshinobu Yamamoto defeated the Blue Jays once more.

Recaps from late-night contests

Those on the East Coast may have missed some fireworks in Los Angeles. The Braves and Angels had a bench-clearing brawl, precipitated by a high fastball thrown by Reynaldo Lopez to Jorge Soler. Soler hit a first-inning home run off Lopez and was then hit by a pitch from him earlier in the game.

The Braves defeated the Angels 7-2.

Robbie Ray and the Giants shut out the Phillies, 6-0.
