April 8 was getaway day for many teams across Major League Baseball. And sometimes on getaway days, pitchers feast on opposing hitters. That was true for Joey Cantillo, Tyler Mahle, and Dylan Cease.

Blue Jays win final game of Dodgers series

Three runs scored late by Toronto helped the Blue Jays earn a 4-3 victory over the Dodgers in the third and final contest of the year between the 2025 World Series teams.

Dylan Cease (40.9% Whiff%) was good despite the four walks, as he struck out eight and had the most swings-and-misses among MLB pitchers on the day. Jesus Sanchez hit his second home run of the year.

Shohei Ohtani (33.3% Chase%) didn’t miss many bats but didn’t allow an earned run over six innings.

Cantillo, Martinez, help Guards win

Joey Cantillo shut down the Royals on April 8.

Cantillo (37.1% Whiff%) struck out nine over 5.2 IP, helping Cleveland to a convincing 10-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals,

Angel Martinez stole the show offensively. Martinez picked up four hits in four straight at-bats, the last of which was a grand slam off Steven Cruz.

Brewers shut out in Boston

Sonny Gray kept the Brewers in check, as he gave up no earned runs over 6.1 scoreless innings against Milwaukee. The Red Sox took the final game of their three-game series against the Brewers 5-0.

Shane Drohan only last 2.2 innings against his old team in his MLB debut for the Brewers.

Giants beat Phillies

The Giants shut out the Phillies 5-0.

Tyler Mahle pitched well despite four walks, as the right-hander struck out six against the Phillies.

Mahle was able to get Phillie hitters to expand out of the zone. His 60 pitches out of the zone were the most in the league on the day among pitchers, and Philadelphia hitters expanded outside 20 times.

Rafael Devers hit his second home run in the sixth inning.
