As of the evening of August 1, we’re still waiting for dominoes to fall before the 2026 MLB Trade Deadline. There weren’t many moves made on the day but there was one that saw four players with MLB experience get traded for one another on the 1st.
Brewers, Guardians make trade
Bo Naylor & Codi Heuer were traded to the Brewers on August 1, in exchange for reliever Craig Yoho and Blake Perkins.
Naylor, once thought of as the future long-term catcher of the Guardians, was never able to live up to the prospect hype around him when he was initially promoted four years ago to the Majors for the first time. Despite some flashes, including late last season, Naylor slashed .199/.279/.372 with 40 career home runs across parts of five seasons.
He was optioned to Triple-A in May after the Guardians acquired catcher Patrick Bailey.
Cleveland was able to acquire Blake Perkins, a defensive-first center fielder with good speed. Plus, Craig Yoho, a 26-year-old who put up gaudy strikeout numbers in the Minors. Yoho’s been up & down for a Brewers team, not that much of a shock given his limited service time.
Furman called up by Giants
Nate Furman had his contract selected by the Giants on August 1.
Acquired via trade from the Guardians in 2024, Furman was one of the best pure contact men in all of the Minors. He struck out just 54 times over 95 contests with Triple-A Sacramento. Furman slashed .284/.370/.405 with seven home runs, 18 stolen bases, and 30 extra-base hits.
