With 2026 Spring Training underway, there are still many free agents looking to find new homes. Several of those free agents came off the board this weekend. Paul Sewald is back with the D-Backs, while division rival San Francisco inked Rowan Wick and Will Brennan to Major League deals.

Sewald returns to D-Backs

The Diamondbacks officially signed Paul Sewald on February 14, adding a familiar name to a bullpen that will be down significant arms to begin the 2026 season.

Sewald, who spent 2025 between the Guardians and Tigers, only pitched in 22 contests in the Majors last season. The right-hander had multiple IL stints last season thanks to a right shoulder strain.

The 35-year-old was part of the Diamondbacks’ NL pennant-winning team during the 2023 season.

Biggio inks Minor League deal with Astros

The Astros signed infielder Cavan Biggio to a Minor League deal on February 15, which comes with an invite to MLB Spring Training.

Biggio returns to the team where his father, Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, starred for two decades. However, Cavan will look to get his career back on track, as he’s gone from Major Leaguer to Minor Leaguer over the past few seasons.

The 30-year-old, who spent last year between the Royals and Angels’ Triple-A affiliates, slashed .268/.375/.400 with five home runs and 21 extra-base hits over 72 contests.

Giants make moves

Over the weekend, the Giants signed two players to MLB deals: former Cubs reliever Rowan Wick and ex-Guardians outfielder Will Brennan.

Wick spent last season in the NPB, where he averaged close to 97 MPH and struck out over 30% of the batters he faced last season (h/t NPB Pitch Profiler). The Giants, though, placed him on the 60-day IL as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.

Brennan, meanwhile, is an outfielder who will look for a fresh start in San Francisco. The 28-year-old is a good contact hitter who performed well in the Majors but was never able to carve out a significant role with the Cleveland Guardians.

From 2022 through 2025, Brennan slashed 267/.307/.373 with 14 home runs and 55 extra-base hits over 269 contests.

Other moves

The Cubs signed former Diamondback Shelby Miller to a Major League deal. Infielder Ben Cowles was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Minnesota signed relievers Cody Laweryson and Andrew Chafin to Minor League deals. Additionally, the Twins traded Jackson Kowar to the Orioles for cash.

The Blue Jays signed former Mariner Jesse Hahn to a Minor League deal.
