Jurickson Profar had a nice rebound run in Atlanta last season after he returned from a PED suspension. However, all that goodwill disappeared quickly. Profar was reportedly suspended for a second positive PED test, which is set to cost him the entire 2026 season. It’s one of several transaction-related notes for March 3.

Marlins make cuts

The Marlins reassigned seven players to Minor League camp on March 3. Those players were Thomas White, Patrick Monteverde, Dale Stanavich, Stephen Jones, Evan McKendry, Samy Vasquez, and Sam Praytor. All are pitchers aside from Praytor, a catcher.

The big name among the group is Thomas White, arguably the best prospect in the Miami system. White was diagnosed with an oblique strain (h/t MLB.com), which effectively ended his Spring Training early.

Monteverde has one game of MLB experience under his belt. The left-hander struck out four over 3.2 IP on April 19 of last season against the Phillies.

Orioles demote McDermott

The Orioles optioned pitcher Chayce McDermott to Triple-A Norfolk on March 3.

McDermott made four appearances for the O’s in 2025, his second Major League season. The right-hander walked 12 and conceded three home runs over 8.2 IP, which led to an ERA over 15 for him at the MLB level.

Profar & Rojas suspended

Braves OF/DH Jurickson Profar was suspended for 162 games, per ESPN. It’s due to a positive PED test, his second in consecutive seasons. The switch-hitter was popped in March 2025, which led to an 80-game suspension.

Profar slashed .245/.353/434 over 371 plate appearances with 14 home runs during his shortened 2025 season. The 33-year-old hit nine home runs in August before his offensive production slowed down the stretch. He slashed .200/.314/.311 and played through pain that led to offseason sports hernia surgery.

He will also be ineligible for the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

Additionally, per multiple reports, Phillies outfielder Johan Rojas was suspended for PEDs. Per the New York Post, Rojas will appeal.
