The 2025 MLB Trade Deadline took a sledgehammer towards the American League closer chart. And, we now have data to look at in August.
We’ll start in Sacramento, where Mason Miller was traded to the Padres. It leaves the Athletics’ bullpen in flux at the moment. Jack Perkins looked like the favorite untul he moved into the rotation. Sean Newcomb received the team’s most recent save.
In Baltimore, Felix Bautista is done for the year. Keegan Akin has assumed the saves favorite role.
Minnesota’s bullpen was eviscerated, as Jhoan Duran, Danny Coulombe, Griffin Jax, and Louie Varland were all traded. It left Cole Sands and Justin Topa as favorites for saves. Topa had two in August as of this writing.
Lastly, in The Bronx, David Bednar has been a steady hand while Devin Williams continues to have trouble in late-inning situations.
Most recently, Shawn Armstrong has been the primary saves option for the Rangers.

Like the American League, the NL list saw a massive shakeup.
Jhoan Duran is the closer in Philadelphia, while Ryan Helsley has worked as the main setup man for incumbent closer Edwin Diaz.
Robert Suarez, despite Mason Miller’s presence, has held on to the closer’s job in San Diego thus far.
JoJo Romero (Cardinals) and Jose Ferrer (Nationals) have both emerged as sneaky save options, as has Victor Vodnik after Seth Halvorsen hit the injured list.
This chart will be updated throughout the year.
