Backyard Baseball is coming back in 2026. After Playground Productions, the company that now owns the IP of the franchise, released two re-released versions of the game from yesteryear, its new game will be released this coming year. That news was confirmed during IGN Fan Fest, and baseball fans won’t have to wait long until it’s released.
Per the development team, Backyard Baseball will feature 30 playable characters, including Pablo Sanchez, Pete Wheeler, Kenny Kawaguchi, and Kiesha Phillips. The title will include 11 remastered stadiums, acheivements and collectibles. And, the development team has promised that no microtransactions will be included.
Lindsay Barnett, CEO of Playground Productions, on the release, “We are thrilled to bring Backyard Baseball into the modern era. The new game offers the perfect combination of the original charm and modern play mechanics audiences have come to expect. We can’t wait for fans to play!”
It also promises to include the same, wacky gameplay that made the franchise a hit in the 1990s and 2000s. Power-ups will be a part of the game, as well as difficulty caps that make the game easy to play for all. A T-ball option will be in the game, as well.
The new Backyard Baseball game will feature six different game modes, including a batting practice mode that was a centerpiece of the older titles. And per the official market listings, it will include online PvP and the ability to use Xbox & DualSense controllers for PC.
Additionally, the listing will be a vastly more exhaustive title in terms of hardware specs for PC. The minimum listing is 8GB of RAM and 13GB of storage, significantly higher than the requirements set forth in the ported titles released in 2024 and 2025.
For Mac devices, OS 12.0 is the minimum, while 15.0 is recommended.
Backyard Baseball will be released on July 9, 2026, for both PC and Mac devices, as well as consoles. The title is already available for wishlist on Steam.
