Now that the 2023 MLB regular season has concluded, it’s time to look ahead to the spring and the start of Spring Training. In July of 2023, Major League Baseball confirmed the start dates for Spring Training in 2024. The annual preseason MLB games will include Cactus League action in Arizona and Grapefruit League games in Florida. When is the start date for the 2024 MLB Spring Training schedule?
The 2024 MLB Spring Training schedule start date is February 22, when the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres square off in Cactus League action in Arizona.
Ironically, Los Angeles and San Diego will also open the MLB regular season schedule in the 2024 season. The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres are set to start the year in South Korea with a pair of games in Seoul during March.
Per Major League Baseball, Grapefruit League action will commence two days later with a full slate of games on February 24. However, two MLB teams — the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins — will be in action on the 23rd against NCAA opponents. Boston will face Northeastern University, while Minnesota will take on the University of Minnesota.
Among other notable events that will take place in the 2024 MLB Spring Training schedule is a pair of games between the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox in the Dominican Republic. Boston and Tampa will square off in Santo Domingo on March 9 & 10.
When do pitchers and catchers report in 2024?
We should note that most teams will have pitchers and catchers report for their first workouts on February 14 or 15, depending on the team. However, both the Dodgers and Padres will open up earlier. That’s not a shock given that the two teams will open up in 2024 before everyone else.
But before then, players have already begun to report to their Spring Training facilities to prepare for the 2024 campaign.
Most teams will have their first full workouts either on February 19 or 20.
The start of the 2024 MLB regular season in North America will take place on March 28, a little over a month after the first Spring Training games.
