The second half of the 2023 MLB season kicks off on July 14. With the fantasy baseball season set to resume, let’s take a quick look at five MLB players that should be available in many leagues that can provide value for team owners.

Maikel Garcia
Royals infielder Maikel Garcia made our waiver wire target list two weeks ago, and he’s back again for Week 15. Since the start of July, Garcia is tied for twelfth in the Majors in total hits (12), and he has a home run, a stolen base, and four RBI in that span.
As we mentioned a few weeks ago, don’t expect much power from the 23-year-old rookie. Garcia does have good control of the barrel and a penchant for swiping bases, both of which are tools that do provide value. He’s not a high-end third baseman, but one could do much, much worse.
Tyler O’Neill
Keep a close eye on Cardinals OF Tyler O’Neill. The 28-year-old hasn’t played a game in the Majors since May of this year, but he is currently on a rehab assignment. Through five games with Memphis (AAA), O’Neill hit .214 with one extra base over 14 at-bats and he’s played two games in center while out on rehab.
Back issues have sidelined O’Neill for much of this season, one that has not been kind to the outfielder. He hit just .228 and posted a .620 OPS over 92 at-bats in 2023. O’Neill’s power and speed combo is tantalizing, though, and that makes him someone worth watching over the coming days.
Seiya Suzuki
It’s been an odd season for Cubs OF Seiya Suzuki. Suzuki missed the start of the 2023 campaign on the IL, and posted a quiet .706 OPS in the month of April when he returned. The 28-year-old then hit .319 with five home runs and 13 RBI in May, but crashed down in June with a .177 average and no homers.
Suzuki’s off to a solid July, as he recorded at least a hit in six straight games before the All-Star break. The 28-year-old consistently makes hard contact, and should be a nice find for any fantasy player that can snare him on the open market.
Spencer Torkelson
Spencer Torkelson’s second season in the Majors has been better than 2022. The 23-year-old already has career highs in home runs (12) and RBI (45), he’s cut down on the chases, and his power numbers have improved month-to-month. Torkelson did bat a paltry .196 in June, but he owns an improved slash line of .273/.351/.515 in July.
There has been inconsistency with Torkelson, but he does possess great plate discipline and power. The adjustment to the Majors hasn’t been easy for Torkelson, but there have been steps in the right direction. He’s a name to monitor for those in need of pop.
Joey Votto
Reds first baseman Joey Votto torched opposing pitchers in July 2021, and he’s off to a hot start to the month again in 2023. Votto entered the All-Star break tied for third in the Majors in home runs (4) during the month of June, and his ten RBI is tied with Jack Suwinski for fourth.
It’s rather incredible to see Votto available in so many leagues, given his power, track record, and a menacing Reds lineup that should ensure the 37-year-old gets plenty of RBI opportunities.
