It’s going to be a tight matchup for Tampa Bay and Tyler Alexander on April 19, as the Rays will take on a Yankees team that’s hit very well against left-handed pitching this season.
New York (AL) owns the eighth-best wRC+ (120) against left-handed pitching. Juan Soto owns a .708 SLG against lefties while surging infielder Anthony Volpe is batting .320 with a .480 SLG against opposite-sided pitchers.
Alexander has allowed three or more earned runs two out of three times this season.
As for our second pick, Jack Flaherty struck out eight in his last matchup on April 14 against the Twins. However, it’ll be the second time in less than a week that Flaherty will face Minnesota and this time, he’ll do so at Target Field.
Flaherty has increased his slider usage this past season, as he’s used it about 11% more compared to 2023. We’ll see whether the Twins will adjust in their second crack against the Tigers righty.
