So far, the Braves are running away with the NL East. But on top of that, Atlanta also has the best record in baseball presently. And on May 13, the Braves became the first team to hit a round win number during the 2026 campaign.
Braves take another from Cubs
The Braves became the first team to win 30 games this season, as Atlanta did so with a 4-1 win over the Cubs.
Drake Baldwin started off the scoring with his 11th home run in the fourth inning. Nico Hoerner tied the game up with a single in the fifth for Chicago. But in the eighth, a Mike Yastrzemski double and a Mauricio Dubon two-run home run helped complete the win.
As for the Cubs, Chicago continues its streaky ways. Just days removed from a 10-game winning streak, the Cubs have now lost four in a row.
Ohtani sharp
The Dodgers snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-0 win over the Giants.
Shohei Ohtani was, to little shock, a difference-maker for the Dodgers. Ohtani struck out eight over seven scoreless innings and lowered his ERA to .82.
Guardians & White Sox continue streaks
Parker Messick (27.5% Whiff%) and the Guardians won on May 13 over the Angels, Cleveland’s third-straight win.
Messick struck out seven for Cleveland, and yet again, the offense came from multiple sources. Angel Martinez hit his seventh home run, while Travis Bazzana picked up two hits.
The White Sox, meanwhile, moved to .500 (21-21) with their fourth-straight win, a 6-5 win over the Royals.
Colson Montgomery picked up three hits, one of which was his 11th home run of the year.
Great pitching in Minnesota & Wisconsin
Two of the best pitching performances on the day came from the Upper Midwest.
Max Meyer struck out nine and had the most whiffs (22) on the day, as he picked up a win back in Minnesota. The former Golden Gopher had a hold on most of the Twins’ lineup — except for Byron Buxton. Buxton hit two home runs off Meyer, which gives him 15 on the year.
The Marlins won 9-5.
Just to the east in Milwaukee, Jacob Misiorowski put on a show. The Brewers’ righty, who threw the hardest pitch on the day at 103.3 MPH, had 20 swings-and-misses and struck out 10 over seven scoreless innings against the Padres.
He was in line to pick up a win until Gavin Sheets hit a three-run home run off Abner Uribe. Padres closer Mason Miller picked up his 13th save in the 3-1 win for San Diego.
Fun fact from this game: the 36 hardest pitches on the day came from Misiorowski and Miller.
