The Angels got their starting shortstop back on April 18, as Zach Neto returned from the injured list. And while there was good news to be had in both Chicago and Los Angeles, the Orioles await more word on Grayson Rodriguez.
Second opinion on Grayson’s shoulder
One day after Grayson Rodriguez underwent an MRI on his bothersome shoulder, the Orioles said the righty would undergo a second opinion after receiving results from the first look.
Rodriguez was originally on the injured list thanks to an elbow problem.
Steele underwent elbow surgery
Cubs left-hander Justin Steele underwent elbow surgery, which was successful, according to the lefty. On X, Steele posted that he appreciated all the thoughts he’s received over the last few days.
What’s not known, however, is the extent of the surgery right now. Steele was set for surgery to repair the flexor tendon, plus deal with the UCL ligament. It was not known before Steele’s operation whether he would need an internal brace — which generally has a shorter recovery span — or Tommy John surgery.
Nonetheless, Steele is done for the rest of this season.
Other injury news

Milwaukee had two of their starters on rehab assignments. Brandon Woodruff threw 68 pitches for Wisconsin (A+) on April 18 and went four innings. Woodruff gave up six hits and three walks for the Timber Rattlers.
Meanwhile, in Charlotte, Tobias Myers threw five scoreless innings for Nashville (AAA). Myers topped out at 96 MPH on his fastball during the start.
Masyn Winn went 0-3 with three strikeouts during his game on April 18, with Memphis (AAA). Winn is on a rehab assignment, as he’s coming back from lower back spasms.
The Marlins placed Derek Hill on the 10-day IL with a left wrist sprain. It’s retroactive to April 17.
Beau Brieske hit the 15-day IL with right ankle inflammation.
The Rays are without Richie Palacios again. Palacios, who made his season debut on April 17 and notched three hits, is on the IL with a right knee sprain. Additionally, Tampa transferred Alex Faedo (right shoulder inflammation) to the 60-day IL.
