One rehab ended on a sour note on May 12, as the Brewers will have to wait a bit longer to get Brandon Woodruff back from the injured list. But in more positive news, a former NL MVP is ready to start his rehab assignment this week.

Acuna Jr. ready for rehab assignment

The Braves officially announced Ronald Acuna Jr. is ready for a rehab assignment.

Acuna Jr., recovering from a torn ACL, will start on May 13 in the FCL and will remain in Atlanta’s spring training home base until he’s ready to go out to one of the affiliates. It’s unknown how many games Acuna Jr. will play but it’s worth noting the maximum for position players is 20 days.

And in Braves-related news, Spencer Strider will throw a simulated game on May 14. The team will then evaluate to see if Strider can come back next week.

Woodruff’s rehab shut down

Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff made what was supposed to be his final rehab start before returning from his shoulder injury. However, Woodruff will remain on the injured list after a new issue popped up.

Manager Pat Murphy said on May 12, Woodruff experienced right ankle tendinitis before and during his start on May 11 with Nashville (AAA). Thanks to MLB rules, Woodruff can’t pitch for any affiliate for one week and will likely need one more start in the Minors, per Murphy.

This isn’t the only notable injury news for the Brewers. Jose Quintana experienced upper arm discomfort and was pushed back. Quintana will start on May 16 against the Twins, rather than the 14th in Cleveland.

Other injury news

Miami activated Derek Hill from the injured list on May 12. However, Dane Myers went on the IL with a right oblique strain.

The Diamondbacks activated reliever Kendall Graveman from the 15-day IL.

DJ LeMahieu, who has been rehabbing in recent days, will be activated from the injured list on May 13.

Cleveland assigned David Fry to the ACL to begin his rehab assignment. Fry is recovering from a right ulnar collateral ligament revision he had in October.
