May 22 was an eventful day on the injury front, as several notable arms went on the IL. The Astros placed Ronel Blanco on the injured list, while the Yankees had to put one of their relievers there thanks to a shoulder problem. But in other news, a former NL MVP is ready to go.

Dollander lands on injured list

In what the Rockies called a “precautionary” move, the Rockies placed rookie pitcher Chase Dollander on the injured list with forearm inflammation. It’s retroactive to May 19, one day after his last start.

It’s been an interesting few weeks for Dollander, promoted early in the 2025 campaign. A fly-ball pitcher, Dollander has gotten hit hard at home (8.66 ERA), with six home runs over 17.2 IP. However, he’s been more productive (4.29 ERA) on the road.

Cruz hits IL

The Yankees placed reliever Fernando Cruz on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation. However, it’s not considered serious, as he had an injection to help and could return when he’s eligible.

Cruz, acquired in the offseason, has been a revelation again, as he’s struck out 35 over 23.2 IP this season.

Acuna Jr. returns on May 23

That’s right, we have a return date. The Braves will activate Ronald Acuna Jr. on May 23, officially ending his rehab from a knee injury. As noted earlier this week, Acuna Jr. played a full game for the first time this week.

Acuna Jr. hit .400 over his rehab, which spanned six games. He walked seven times across those games.

Other injury news

Anthony Santander sat out the Blue Jays’ game on May 22 with a hip injury.

Cleveland placed Will Brennan on the 10-day IL with left forearm inflammation.

The Astros placed starter Ronel Blanco on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation. It’s retroactive to May 20.

Aaron Civale (Brewers), George Kirby (Mariners), and Lane Thomas (Guardians) were activated from the injured list.
