The Angels and Red Sox completed their season series on June 25 and both teams provided injury updates on notable players. Boston will be without Kutter Crawford, who’s missed the entire season to this point, for the remainder of the 2025 campaign. Meanwhile, the Angels received positive news regarding shortstop Zach Neto.
Crawford done for 2025
The Red Sox won’t see Kutter Crawford throw a pitch in 2025.
Crawford, who’s been on the IL since March, will need season-ending wrist surgery. The Red Sox right-hander was previously on the injured list with patellar tendon soreness in his right knee but suffered a setback with his right wrist.
The wrist injury, per manager Alex Cora, was caused by an off-the-field accident.
Update on Neto’s shoulder
Angels shortstop Zach Neto left the team’s game on June 24 after sustaining a shoulder injury. Neto jammed his shoulder on a stolen base attempt late in the game and after an uncomfortable throw in the ninth, he was removed.
Today, the Angels provided an update on Neto.
An MRI revealed no structural damage to his right shoulder, the same one he had repaired this offseason. He’s day-to-day.
Rehab assignments
Reds infielder Noelvi Marte went 0-4 with a run scored for Chattanooga (AA). Marte spent the game as the Lookouts’ designated hitter.
Orioles infielder Jorge Mateo went 1-3 with a home run and two RBI for Norfolk (AAA). Mateo, who started at short, played the first five innings.
Other injury news
Giants prospect Bryce Eldridge suffered a right hamstring strain and will miss three to four weeks. Eldridge is currently in Sacramento (AAA).
The Diamondbacks placed infielder Ildemaro Vargas on the 10-day IL with a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot.
Max Scherzer was activated from the injured list.
