We finish off our positional 2025 MLB power rankings with right field. This list looks different compared to past seasons, thanks to one notable superstar shifting to right field. Plus, a pair of breakout youngsters from 2024 enter the fold.

10. Nick Castellanos

Nick Castellanos

We’ll start our top-10 power ranking list at right field with Nick Castellanos, one of the game’s most productive right fielders offensively. The Phillies outfielder finished 2024 with the second-most hits (154) among primary right fielders (154), the third-most total bases (261), and fourth-most home runs (23).

The 32-year-old is a premier fastball hitter. Castellanos batted .297 with eight home runs against the heat last season. An above-average power hitter, the Phillies right fielder had 52 home runs over the last two seasons. However, one weakness in his game is the chasing, as his 37.8% Chase% ranked among the worst in the league.

Where Castellanos comes short is his defense. The 32-year-old’s worked on it over the years. But, Castellanos’ range isn’t ideal, as indicated by the -23 Outs Above Average (OAA) he posted from 2022-24.

9. Lawrence Butler

Lawrence Butler

Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler had a relatively quiet debut in 2023, hitting .211/.240/.341 (.581 OPS) with four home runs and eight extra-base hits. His first half of 2024 was unspectacular, as well. However, Butler went off over the second half, as the 24-year-old hit .300/.345/.553 (.898 OPS) with 13 home runs and 32 extra-base hits, the latter of which was tied for 12th in the league.

Butler finished 2024 with 22 home runs and a .807 OPS, along with impressive batted-ball metrics. His 202 total bases ranked eighth-most among primary right fielders, while his 22 bombs were tied for sixth at the position. The A’s right fielder came two stolen bases shy of a 20-20 campaign, with 18 stolen bases.

Defensively, Butler was a neutral defender, with a 0 OAA in the Bay Area last year. He’s got good footspeed for the position, as well as a strong arm that ranked above the league average.

8. Anthony Santander

Anthony Santander

New Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Santander had himself a career season in his free agent year. Santander belted a career-high 44 home runs for the Orioles and his .814 OPS was his best, aside from the shortened 2020 campaign.

When compared to his peers, the switch-hitter ranked among the league’s best. No primary right fielder in 2024 had more home runs than the 30-year-old, while his 301 total bases were second-most. Santander parlayed that success from 2024 and years past into a five-year deal with Toronto in January.

Santander saw sporadic time at first base, in addition to his time in the outfield with Baltimore. The veteran outfielder is a fringe runner in the outfield, limiting his range. Santander sported a -2 OAA in right field between 2022-24.

7. Fernando Tatis Jr.

Fernando Tatis Jr.

Fernando Tatis Jr. is further down on this list not because he had a bad 2024 — Tatis did fine in 2024. Rather, simply due to the amount of top right fielders in Major League Baseball.

Tatis Jr. only played 102 games last season, thanks to a stress reaction in one of his femur bones. But when Tatis Jr. was on the field, he was effective at the dish. The 26-year-old’s .832 OPS was fourth-best among right fielders (min. 300 PA), and his .492 SLG was his best since the 2021 campaign.

The 26-year-old’s first run in right field back in 2023 went swimmingly. Tatis Jr. won a Gold Glove and the NL Platinum Glove, as the shortstop-turned-outfielder took to his new position quickly. Last season, though, Tatis Jr. posted a negative Outs Above Average (-2).

6. Jackson Chourio

Jackson Chourio

What a rookie season it was for Jackson Chourio. At the age of 2024, Chourio posted a 20-20 campaign for the Brewers, hitting .275/.327/.464 (.791 OPS) with 21 home runs, 22 stolen bases, and 79 RBI. The Brewers outfielder added to his rookie campaign by hitting .455 with two home runs in the NL Wild Card Round.

The Brewers second-year player is the total package. Chourio’s toolset includes plus speed and athleticism, coupled with above-average pop. The 20-year-old also struck out to the tune of 21.1%, better than the league average.

Chourio played mostly in left field in 2024 but spent significant time in right, as well. But with Christian Yelich set to re-take left field in 2025, expect Chourio to spend more time in center & right field. His +7 OAA is an indicator he’ll be just fine, despite average arm strength.

5. Mike Trout

Mike Trout

It’s strange to see Mike Trout so far down any positional ranking list. However, the three-time AL MVP and active leader in bWAR (86.9) hasn’t been on the field much since the start of 2021. Trout played fewer than 100 games in 2021, 2023, and 2024.

However, when Trout is on the field, it’s hard to dispute he can still be an impact player. The 33-year-old got off to a blazing start to 2024, as he cracked 10 home runs over 29 games. Two meniscus tears ended his season, the second one was sustained during rehabbing with Salt Lake (AAA).

Defensively, Trout was a very strong defender in center field, despite never winning an AL Gold Glove. But, Trout will move to right field in an attempt to minimize the physical toll on his body.

4. Kyle Tucker

Kyle Tucker

Despite missing a healthy chunk of 2024, Kyle Tucker was among the league’s best offensive outfielders. The current Cub tied Castellanos for the fourth-most home runs (23) among right fielders last season. And, Tucker did it in just 78 games, compared to Castellanos’ 162.

Had Tucker stayed healthy for all of 2024, the ex-Astro could have been in the AL MVP conversation. The Cub posted an impressive .993 OPS over 339 plate appearances, thanks in part to an on-base percentage (.408) above the .400 marker.

Tucker will be a free agent after 2025, making this season pivotal for the 28-year-old. It’s even more pivotal for the Cubs, as this could be the only season that sees Tucker in the Windy City.

3. Corbin Carroll

Corbin Carroll

After a standout rookie season, Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll hit a significant slump over the first half of 2024. The 24-year-old slashed .212/.301/.334 (.635 OPS) in the first half. But in the second half, Carroll exploded to post a .919 OPS, with 17 home runs over 280 plate appearances. That total ranked in the top 10 in the Majors.

The 24-year-old has a lightning-quick bat but has never gotten too pull-happy over his first two MLB seasons. Carroll struggled with breaking balls somewhat in 2024 — with a sub-.200 batting average — but for the most part, stays back when necessary and can do damage with either his bat or feet.

Carroll split his time in center and right field last season but for these power rankings, was categorized as a right fielder. His arm fits better in center but overall, is an incredibly rangy outfielder. Carroll posted a cumulative +8 OAA in 2024, with a +5 OAA at right field.

2. Ronald Acuna Jr.

Ronald Acuna Jr.

Ronald Acuna Jr. entered 2024 as the reigning NL MVP after becoming the first 40-70 player in MLB history. However, the 2024 campaign was a stark contrast to 2023. Acuna Jr. played just 49 games before a left ACL tear, the second one — albeit to the other knee — he suffered in four years.

It ended a season that saw Acuna Jr. bat .250/.351/.365 (.716 OPS), the lowest number of his career. Acuna Jr. was still very valuable in terms of getting on base for the heart of the Braves’ lineup. But, Acuna Jr. hit just four home runs, although he could have had as many as seven had certain balls been hit in different parks.

The big question surrounding the 2023 NL MVP is whether he will get off to a running start when he returns in 2025. Acuna Jr., who said he’s close to 100% in Spring Training, didn’t hit as well when he returned from an ACL tear in 2021. Three years ago, Acuna Jr. slashed .266/.351/.413 (.764 OPS) with 15 home runs and 39 extra-base hits over 119 games.

1. Aaron Judge

Aaron Judge

The top spot on our right fielder power ranking list goes to Aaron Judge, who won his second AL MVP in three years in 2024. Judge got off to a slow start in 2024, as he went 2-16 in the March games, followed by a .220/.361/.450 (.811 OPS) in April. But from May onward, Judge tore up the Majors to lead the league in home runs (58), SLG (.701), and OPS (1.159 OPS).

Judge moves back to right field in 2025, a place where the Yankees outfielder fits better. Yes, Judge made it work — his -6 OAA in center was below-average nonetheless — until the very end last season to accommodate Juan Soto. However, the reigning AL MVP’s arm is premium, and the corner is less taxing on his body.

Make sure to take a look at our power rankings of the best catchers and first basemen.

Disclaimer: For our 2025 player rankings, we had Bryan Reynolds, who’s moving to right field for 2025, and Juan Soto listed as left fielders. Both would have made our top-10.
