After an active pre-Christmas slate of moves over the week, this past weekend was relatively quiet. However, there was more offseason action being taken care of by several teams. The Yankees will reportedly bring back veteran Paul Blackburn, while the Guardians signed an outfielder for their non-roster invite roster.

Yankees re-sign Blackburn

Per multiple reports, the Yankees will re-sign pitcher Paul Blackburn to a one-year deal worth $2MM.

Blackburn, a 32-year-old right-hander, spent the last few weeks of the 2025 MLB regular season and playoffs with the Yankees after he was cut by the Mets. He struck out 16 over 15.1 IP regular-season innings out of the bullpen. He did get hit hard in the ALDS, as he surrendered four earned runs over 1.1 IP.

A former AL All-Star with the Athletics, Blackburn has significant starting experience, as well.

White Sox release DeLoach

Aside from the White Sox’s addition of Munetaka Murakami, the South Siders made one other move this past weekend. Chicago (AL) released Zach DeLoach, who was in the White Sox’s farm system.

DeLoach was acquired nearly two years ago in the trade that sent Gregory Santos to Seattle. The 27-year-old slashed .209/.293/.328 over 22 games with the White Sox in 2025. He only played 51 games this past year, all in Triple-A, due to injury.

Guardians make moves

The Guardians signed outfielder Stuart Fairchild to a Minor League deal. Fairchild also received an invite to Spring Training.

Fairchild has bounced around over the years, as the 29-year-old has played with five MLB teams over parts of five seasons. The ex-Wake Forest star has a career slash line of .223/.305/.384 (.689 OPS). However, Fairchild is a good runner and valuable in the outfield defensively.

Additionally, the Guardians designated reliever Justin Bruihl for assignment this past weekend. Bruihl, who was acquired just a few days earlier, was DFA’d to make room for Shawn Armstrong. Armstrong officially signed on December 20.
