This past week in Major League Baseball saw several big performances. Now that we head into the third full week of the 2026 fantasy baseball season, it’s time to take a look at which hitters could be of great service. Here are five widely-available hitters to target heading into Week 3 of the season.
Best Week 3 hitters to target
- 2B/3B/OF Willi Castro (Rockies)
- C Dillon Dingler (Tigers)
- C Carter Jensen (Royals)
- OF Cam Smith (Astros)
- OF Daulton Varsho (Blue Jays)
Last month, I touched on Daulton Varsho being a potential bargain value in the very late stages of drafts. And despite a cold start, the 29-year-old turned it on over the past week.
Varsho hit two home runs in the Blue Jays’ series against the Twins before the 12th. Then, on the final game of the series, he picked up three more hits. Heading into April 13, Varsho had a hit in all but three games he played this month.
It’s a small sample size but the returns have been good thus far. A walk rate over 11%, a lowered chase rate, and the pull-side pop that Varsho has been capable of in his MLB career. A 20-home run season is very much possible if he can stay healthy.
Moving on, I’ve always liked Willi Castro in fantasy, for several reasons. One, Castro was a fairly reliable stolen base threat years ago. That’s changed since 2024. However, Castro hits reasonably well for a super-utility player who plays every day.
A good week from Castro heading into the day on April 12, as he had six hits, one of which was a home run, and four runs scored. He received a day off on the 12th.
Second-year outfielder Cam Smith is a nice secondary option for those who missed out on Jordan Walker, who exploded over the past week for the Cardinals. Smith had seven hits, one of which was a home run, over his last six contests.
Our final two picks are catchers. Dillon Dingler got a hold of one off Sandy Alcantara on April 12. He’s now tied for the team lead in home runs (3), alongside Kerry Carpenter.
Lastly, I touched on Carter Jensen in our risers & fallers list from Week 2 earlier in the week. I’ll bring him up again here, as Jensen is nearing must-own status. Two more hits for Jensen on April 12, completing a strong week that saw him pick up three home runs for the Royals.
Obviously, he’s not going to hit three home runs a week. But Jensen hit for a lot of pop in the Minors, as he has in his early Major League career, and is playing almost every day.
Overview of Week 2
Chalk up another win for fantasy players who took our Week 2 advice and grabbed Max Muncy (the Dodger, not the Athletics infielder).
Muncy had a three-home run game against the Rangers on April 10, part of a week that also saw him pick up three walks in five games heading into the 12th. Especially for those in a points league, it was a big week for the Dodgers’ third baseman.
Carlos Correa missed time this past week with an illness, dampening his output from the past week. Ryan O’Hearn batted .235 over the past week but we still like him as a fantasy option.
Francisco Alvarez had a good week, too. Hits in four games this past week, and a home run on April 11 against the A’s.
