Some tough injury news for teams on the cusp of being eliminated on September 30. Roman Anthony and Daulton Varsho are done for their respective teams through the Wild Card Round and then some. Plus, Edmundo Sosa was pulled due to injury in Game 2 against the Phillies.

Anthony done for Wild Card

Roman Anthony is done for the 2026 AL Wild Card Round, and then some.

Manager Chad Tracy noted that Anthony re-aggravated his hand and also suffered some new strains upon further examination. Anthony was removed from the roster and will be ineligible through the ALDS.

For reference, he was removed early on the 29th during Game 1.

Varsho out for rest of 2026

Astros outfielder Daulton Varsho is done for 2026 after he underwent wrist surgery. The surgery took place on September 29.

Varsho missed the last week of the 2026 campaign, with his last game coming on September 19 against the Braves.

Sosa removed in Game 2

The Phillies removed infielder Edmundo Sosa in the ninth inning of Game 2 in the 2026 NL Wild Card round with an apparent lower-body injury.

Sosa came up limping after running out a ground ball and was replaced by Derek Hill.
