Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton was one of the most valuable hitters on the team over the second half despite the chronic elbow injury that he dealt with last year. And unfortunately for Stanton, that tennis elbow has not gone away.
Basallo leaves game
Orioles catcher Samuel Basallo was removed from the team’s game on February 26 against the Tigers.
Basallo was removed due to an abdominal injury. The good news for O’s fans is that the removal was deemed precautionary, per manager Craig Albernaz. He is not expected to undergo additional testing.
Stanton still dealing with elbow problems
Yankees DH Giancarlo Stanton is still dealing with elbow problems, which affected his 2025 season.
Stanton, who’s dealing with tennis elbow, told NJ.com that he can’t open up a bag of chips or open a bottle because of it. He’s expected to receive a lot of off days to manage the injury.
He has not played yet this spring but is expected to make his Grapefruit League debut next week. However, he doesn’t expect the elbow to be completely right while he’s still an active player.
Lewis scratched
Twins third baseman Royce Lewis was scratched from the team’s starting lineup on February 26.
Per the New York Times, Lewis did not play thanks to right-side tightness, which he sustained during pregame warmups.
Other notes
Rangers third baseman Josh Jung was scratched from the team’s game on the 26th thanks to a hamstring injury. It was deemed precautionary, per manager Skip Schumaker.
Brenton Doyle, who was scratched from the Rockies’ game on February 25, is waiting for results on imaging done on his wrist (h/t MLB.com).
Rays pitcher Shane McClanahan is expected to make his spring debut next week.
Zack Wheeler threw a bullpen session on February 26 (h/t NBC Sports Philadelphia).
