Opening Day 2026 has arrived, and teams have finalized what their rosters will look like. Teams had to perform housekeeping transactions on the 25th, finalizing IL moves before the start of the year. And as expected, a lot of players will begin the campaign on the injured list.

Cole placed on 15-day IL

The Yankees placed pitcher Gerrit Cole on the 15-day IL, instead of the 60-day IL.

This shouldn’t be much of a shock, given that Cole did pitch in Grapefruit League action down the stretch. However, what this does mean is that Cole could return before the end of May — or even sooner.

Next up, here’s a look at all the players placed on the injured list just before the season started:

10-day IL

Some of these names were should not be surprises.

Crawford was battling a shoulder problem all spring long. Seiya Suzuki and Kyle Teel both suffered injuries during the World Baseball Classic, while Kyle Stowers and Jordan Westburg both dealt with notable injuries this spring, as well.

15-day IL

Again, quite a few expected names here.

Zack Wheeler is supposed to go on rehab this coming weekend with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, opening the door for him to return soon after the start of April.

60-day IL
