The Pirates had to play without their star rookie on May 28, as Konnor Griffin was unable to start and didn’t play. Additionally, the Tigers & Red Sox placed relievers on the injured list, and Kodai Senga & Josh Hader both pitched in rehab outings.

Griffin out

Pirates shortstop Konnor Griffin did not play on May 28 against the Cubs.

Griffin is currently dealing with forearm soreness.

IL moves

One day after Kenley Jansen was removed from his relief outing against the Angels, Detroit placed him on the IL with pelvic inflammation.

Red Sox pitcher Garrett Whitlock was placed on the IL with left knee inflammation.

Rockies pitcher Jose Quintana (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day IL.

The Blue Jays placed infielder Lenyn Sosa on the 10-day IL with a right wrist contusion. Additionally, pitcher Lazaro Estrada was transferred to the 60-day IL and sent on a rehab assignment to Low-A Dunedin.

Rehab assignments

Mets pitcher Kodai Senga struck out five over 3.2 IP (80 pitches) for Triple-A Syracuse. He walked two, gave up four hits, and topped out at 97 MPH. However, he averaged only 94 MPH, roughly two MPH down from his average.

Astros reliever Josh Hader gave up two walks and one hit — a home run — over 0.2 IP of work. Hader averaged 93 MPH and topped out at 94 MPH, yet again down from his previous norms.

Blue Jays pitcher Lazaro Estrada struck out two over two innings (38 pitches) for Dunedin.
