The Tampa Bay Rays’ bullpen had to do some heavy lifting against the Orioles on May 26. That is because Griffin Jax, the team’s starter, exited early due to injury. Additionally, the Phillies saw Brandon Marsh also make an early exit.

Jax removed after hit with comebacker

Rays pitcher Griffin Jax was removed from his start on the 26th and diagnosed with a back contusion.

Jax was struck in the back in the second inning by a Leody Taveras line drive that knocked him down temporarily. The right-hander finished out the second but didn’t go further than that.

Marsh exits with finger injury

Brandon Marsh suffered a sprained finger in San Diego.

Marsh was picked off at first base in the second inning of the Phillies’ game against the Padres. He stayed down for a short time afterwards, shaking out his hand before he exited.

Brewers pitcher Logan Henderson was placed on the 15-day IL with a low back sprain.

Noah Schultz landed on the IL with right knee patellar tendinitis.

Rays pitcher Jesse Scholtens was placed on the 15-day IL with a right wrist sprain.
