No Shohei Ohtani for the Dodgers on July 30, which was, arguably, the most notable injury-related news on the day. But aside from that, the Rays saw Shane McClanahan exit early, as did the Yankees with Jazz Chisholm Jr.
Ohtani out vs. Mariners
Dodgers TWP Shohei Ohtani (knee) was in the club’s starting lineup on July 30.
Ohtani has dealt with a nagging knee issue that’s kept him off the mound for several weeks. Manager Dave Roberts indicated that Ohtani dealt with renewed knee soreness after the Dodgers’ game on the 29th, hence the move to keep him out in the series finale versus the Mariners.
Chisholm Jr. pulled in series finale
The Yankees removed infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the team’s final game versus the White Sox on July 30 in the 11th inning.
It was due to cramps, per manager Aaron Boone.
McClanahan leaves early
Rays pitcher Shane McClanahan left in the fourth inning of the team’s game against the Rangers due to mid-back tightness.
IL moves
The Rangers placed reliever Jakob Junis on the 15-day IL with a left adductor strain, retroactive to July 29.
Matt McLain (Reds) and Jake Irvin (Reds) were activated off the injured list.
Rehab assignments
Rangers pitcher Cody Bradford struck out seven over four scoreless innings (56 pitches) for Triple-A Round Rock.
White Sox pitcher Drew Thorpe struck out five over four scoreless innings for Double-A Birmingham. Thorpe threw 43 pitches.
Brewers pitcher Kyle Harrison struck out five over 5.2 IP (68 pitches) for High-A Wisconsin. Harrison walked three but did not allow a run.
Other notes
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy indicated the club is unsure of the next steps for Roman Anthony, who has begun a swinging program. Additionally, Curtis Mead will have his wrist reimaged in four weeks. He was diagnosed with a nondisplaced left wrist fracture (h/t MLB.com).
Corey Seager will be activated on July 31, per president of baseball operations Chris Young.
As for other Rangers-related news, manager Skip Schumaker indicated that Josh Jung‘s recovery from a calf strain has stalled and is not trending in the right direction (h/t Dallas Morning News).
