The Fourth of July featured a full slate of MLB contests, highlighted by some significant intradivisional matchups and a rematch of the 2025 ALCS, part two. Plus, the two teams from Pennsylvania both had big wins on the day.

Pirates win early game

The Pirates took down the Nationals in the Nation’s Capital 7-1 in Washington’s annual 11:00 AM local time game.

Konnor Griffin got things going fast, as he stole home to give Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead. James Wood hit a solo shot in the first to tie it but it was all Pirates from that point forward.

Pittsburgh scored four in the second, two thanks to a Brandon Lowe two-run single. Bryan Reynolds, Ryan O’Hearn, and Nick Gonzales each had two hits, while Braxton Ashcraft struck out seven over 5.2 IP to secure his ninth victory of 2026.

Phillies win 50th of 2026

Jesus Luzardo‘s dominance on the road continued in Kansas City. Luzardo struck out nine over six innings to earn his seventh victory in a 6-1 Phillies win.

It was a very good day for the Phillies’ offense, which had 12 hits on the day. Kyle Schwarber had three hits, while Alec Bohm and Gabriel Rincones both had two hits. Those two also went deep.

J.T. Realmuto hit his sixth home run of the year.

Mariners blow out Jays

The Blue Jays had just one hit in an 11-0 blowout victory for the Seattle Mariners.

Logan Gilbert struck out seven over 7.1 scoreless innings.

Astros walk off on Yordan’s heroics

It wasn’t a great day for either starter, as Hunter Brown allowed six earned runs over four innings, and Drew Rasmussen surrendered five earned runs over five.

Six total home runs were hit, one of which came off the bat of Junior Caminero. Caminero now has 26 on the season.
