Tropicana Field has been a haven for the Rays, as Tampa Bay is 38-15 at home this season. That 38th win came on July 27. As for their in-state NL rival, the second half has not been kind to the Marlins whatsoever.
Padres sweep Marlins
The Padres defeated the Marlins 5-3 after a four-run eighth inning, giving San Diego another win and the Marlins their 12th straight loss.
Manny Machado tied up the game with a two-run shot in the eighth. Then, Jackson Merrill, who’s been hot since the start of the second half, hit a solo shot to give San Diego a lead that wouldn’t be relinquished.
Ty France had two hits in the win, while Jake Cronenworth had three.
With that loss, the Marlins slid to 52-54, three games out of the final NL Wild Card spot.
Rasmussen dominant
Just one run was needed for the Rays, as Tampa Bay won 1-0 over the Guardians to complete the weekend sweep.
The lone run on the day came from a Cedric Mullins RBI single. Drew Rasmussen was excellent, as he struck out nine over seven scoreless innings to pick up his ninth win of the season.
Parker Messick, back in Florida, pitched very well in the loss. The left-hander struck out six and allowed only one earned run over 7.2 IP.
Brewers blow out Rockies
Jacob Misiorowski was feeling it on July 26, as he struck out 12 in an 11-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
Five Brewers had at least two hits. Rookies Cooper Pratt and Luis Lara each had two hits and two RBI.
Mariners pick up win
Dominic Canzone and Randy Arozarena each hit home runs for the Mariners, who got on the board with a victory over the Rangers on the 26th.
The Mariners’ bats were able to crack through after Jacob deGrom left, as he allowed just one run through five innings. Back to the offense, Josh Naylor had two hits, while Canzone and Arozarena had three.
Seattle can pick up another win against Texas in the series finale on the 27th.
Phillies win on Sunday Night
The Phillies put up 11 combined earned runs on Will Warren & Ryan Yarbrough, as Philadelphia concluded their series with a win over the Yankees.
It was a great day for the offense, as Trea Turner had two hits, one of which was a triple to start off the contest. Bryson Stott had three hits, one of which was his eighth home run, and five RBI.
