Heading into Game 4, the Brewers had a chance to make history. Finish off the Rays and win the club’s first-ever World Series. Milwaukee had a chance to do that with a lead in extra innings — but the night did not end with a crowned World Series champion.

Rays avoid the sweep

Tampa Bay defeated the Brewers 4-3 in 12 innings on October 27.

The Rays struck first in Game 4, as Chandler Simpson hit an RBI double in the second off Dustin May to make it 1-0. Cooper Pratt neutralized that with an RBI double off his own, which came in the fourth off Griffin Jax.

Both the Brewers and Rays traded runs again. Junior Caminero scored on an error in the bottom half of the fourth inning. However, that lead didn’t last. David Hamilton hit his second playoff home run in the fifth off Jax.

After that home run from Hamilton, the bullpen shut the doors. Kevin Kelly, Nick Martinez, and Bryan Baker tossed five combined scoreless innings. As for the Brewers, five relievers, including Aaron Ashby, who continued his record-setting scoreless streak, pushed the game to extra innings.

No runs were scored in extras in the 12th. Rays pitcher Ian Seymour conceded a solo shot to Cooper Pratt, his first postseason home run and what could have been the series-winning run for Milwaukee.

But in the 12th, the Rays clawed back. Junior Caminero reached on an error from Joey Ortiz. Liam Hicks poked a single that pushed Caminero to third. The next batter, Jonny DeLuca, drove in pinch runner Cedric Mullins. After DeLuca tied it, pinch-hitter Ben Williamson hit a game-winning single to right that scored Hicks.

Milwaukee leads the series 3-1.

What’s ahead?

Game 5 of the 2026 World Series will be contested on October 28. Should the Rays win, it would force the series to go back to Milwaukee.
