The first Saturday of the 2026 MLB regular season brought with it several comeback injuries and some impressive pitching performances. The Blue Jays received both of those, as the reigning AL champions moved to 2-0 on the season.

Blue Jays improve to 2-0

Yet again, the Blue Jays pulled off a comeback win.

Dylan Cease pitched exceptionally well on the day. Cease finished the day with a league-high 24 whiffs, part of a 12-strikeout day for the new Blue Jay.

However, the A’s had the lead heading into the ninth, thanks in large part to a grand slam from Shea Langeliers. But in the ninth, Alejandro Kirk hit a solo shot. Two innings later, Ernie Clement drove in Nathan Lukes to complete the win.

Rule 5 pick Spencer Miles picked up the win in relief.

Braves had wild comeback

The Braves walked off the Royals 6-2 on the 28th, thanks to a grand slam from Dominic Smith.

This game seemed to be in the Royals’ favor heading into the ninth. Michael Wacha (38.6% Whiff%) struck out seven over six scoreless innings. However, Carlos Estevez could not shut the door.

Estevez’s velocity was down in the spring, and that remained true on the 28th, as he sat mostly 91-92 MPH. He only got one out, as Estevez gave up three hits and two walks before Smith finished the game for Atlanta.

Salvador Perez hit his first home run of the year.

Robert Jr. wins game for Mets

The Mets went to 2-0 on the year thanks to a three-run walk-off home run from new outfielder Luis Robert Jr.

No runs were scored in this game until the extra innings. Mitch Keller and David Peterson both pitched well in Queens. Both the Pirates and Mets scored a run in the 10th before the Pirates picked up another run in the 11th.

But at the bottom of that frame, Robert Jr. hit a low slider out to left field and over the wall.

Reds & Red Sox have a strange game

Weird one in Cincinnati, where the Reds won 6-5 in 11 innings over the Red Sox.

It was a great day for the Reds’ offense. Matt McLain picked up three hits. Sal Stewart and Elly De La Cruz each hit home runs.

However, this game featured overturned calls via ABS, plus a game-tying home run in the ninth from Wilyer Abreu off Emilio Pagan.

Dane Myers drove in the game-winning run for the Reds.
