March 28 was a day for the offenses across college baseball. There were many high-scoring affairs, including in Iowa City & Tallahassee. However, while the Seminoles’ offense was hot on the day, arguably their best run producer is done for 2026.
UCLA blows out Iowa
The UCLA Bruins and Iowa Hawkeyes scored 19 total runs on March 28 — and all of them belonged to the former. UCLA won 19-0 in a run-rule game to move to 24-24 and 11-0 in Big 10 play.
Every player in the starting lineup, aside from Roman Martin, picked up at least a hit in the win. Will Gasparino had two hits, as did Dominic Cadiz, the latter of whom had a home run and five RBI.
Michael Barnett threw 5.1 scoreless innings and struck out five.
FSU and Duke go back and forth
The Duke Blue Devils and Florida State Seminoles scored 23 combined runs in Tallahassee. FSU ultimately won despite a late Duke rally that saw the Blue Devils score four in the eighth to tie the game.
Myles Bailey went 2-3 with a home run. However, he suffered a leg injury in the contest. Per the program, he underwent surgery and will miss the rest of the 2026 season.
UNC swept Notre Dame
Notre Dame has been a pleasant surprise this season but lost two games to UNC on March 28, as the Tar Heels moved to 23-4-1 on the year.
Erik Paulsen had a big second game, as the Stony Brook transfer picked up four hits against the Fighting Irish. Paulsen moved to second on the team in total hits, behind Owen Hull.
Walker McDuffie picked up his sixth win in the 2026 campaign.
UCF rolls on
The UCF Knights won 13-3 against Arizona, as the Wildcats fell to 2-7 in conference play. UCF, meanwhile, is now 7-1 in Big 12 play and 17-8 overall on the season.
Zak Skinner, Javier Crespo, and Cayden Gaskin combined for seven hits, with Gaskin ending his day with three. Mateo Gray threw six strong for the Knights in his first start of the 2026 season.
Other news
LSU’s William Schmidt threw 5.1 scoreless innings against the Kentucky Wildcats. The Tigers won 7-0 to even the series.
Wake Forest swept California in a doubleheader. Chris Levonas struck out 10 and threw 6.1 strong innings for the Demon Deacons.
Boston College won 17-0 to take the series from the Virginia Cavaliers. Nick Wang picked up four hits, one of which was a home run.
Ethan Kleinschmit struck out 12 for the Oregon State Beavers. OSU defeated Mercer 19-2.
Oregon lost to UC Santa Barbara 8-2 on the 28th. Cole Tryba struck out six over 4.1 innings for the Gauchos.
Gavin Kelly went deep for West Virginia, and the Mountaineers won 13-7 against Arizona State.
