German Marquez & Matt Strahm joined the list of newcomers in the free agent pool, as the two were among the players released on August 8. Additionally, Bryse Wilson was one of several to be designated for assignment by the Brewers.

Marquez, Strahm among released players

Chris Martin (Rangers), German Marquez (Padres), and Matt Strahm (Royals) were officially released on August 8.

Martin pitched in 14 innings for the Rangers this season, allowing 14 earned runs and only having nine strikeouts for Texas.

Both Marquez (.370 opponents’ wOBA) and Strahm (.388) joined new clubs this season and were hit hard. Marquez, signed as a depth starter by the Padres, pitched in 14 games this season with San Diego.

DFA’s

Bryse Wilson (Brewers), Wikelman Gonzalez (White Sox), and Nelson Velazquez (Cardinals) were designated for assignment.

For Wilson, the Brewers were the third club that he pitched for this season. He made six appearances with Milwaukee, only allowing runs in two of those contests.

Gonzalez didn’t pitch at all in the Majors this season, one year after he first debuted in the Majors. The right-hander, who was acquired in the Garrett Crochet trade from 2024, struck out 42 over 30 innings this season with Triple-A Charlotte but had an ERA north of 6.00 this season.

Velazquez’s designation for assignment cleared a path for outfielder Everson Pereira, who was claimed off waivers from the White Sox earlier this week.

Yunior Tur (Athletics) was recalled.

Braxton Garrett (Cubs), Eric Wagaman (Mets), Chase Petty (Reds), Hayden Juenger (Athletics), David Sandlin (White Sox), Ben Peoples (Rangers), Noah Schultz (White Sox), and Blas Castano (Rockies) were optioned.

Other moves

The Brewers selected pitcher Lyon Richardson from Triple-A.

Seattle signed outfielder Stuart Fairchild to a Minor League deal.
