Verdicts were handed out on several 2025 Rule 5 Draft picks when Aprill rolled around. The Blue Jays returned Angel Bastardo to Boston, while the Red Sox may very well get Jedixson Paez back. Additionally, the Dodgers acquired journeyman reliever Jake Eder.
Dodgers trade for Eder
The Dodgers acquired lefty Jake Eder in a trade with the Nationals. Eder was designated for assignment in late March after Washington acquired infielder Curtis Mead from the White Sox.
Eder has bounced around over the years, between the Marlins, Angels, White Sox, Nationals, and now the Dodgers. Crafty lefty with a deeper arsenal for a reliever, and a former top prospect in the Miami system.
Reliever Jake Cousins was transferred to the 60-day IL.
White Sox DFA Paez
The White Sox designated pitcher Jedixson Paez for assignment.
Paez was one of two Rule 5 Draft picks made by Chicago (AL) over the winter. The other was Alexander Alberto, a hard-throwing reliever who was returned last month to Tampa Bay. Paez was a starting pitcher prospect in Boston who worked in A-ball last season. However, Chicago sought to stash him in the bullpen for the time being.
That experiment didn’t work too well. Paez walked three and conceded four hits, and gave up six total runs over three innings.
Since Paez was DFA’d, the White Sox could now either try to work out a trade for his rights with Boston or return him to his old organization.
That move cleared a 40-man roster spot for Lucas Sims. Sims had his contract selected by the White Sox.
Options
The Mariners optioned Colt Emerson to Triple-A Tacoma. Emerson’s eight-year extension became official on April 1, and he was selected to the Mariners’ 40-man roster. But for now, he’ll stay in the Minors.
Colorado optioned catcher Braxton Fulford to Triple-A.
Jeferson Quero, who was recalled during the opening weekend of the year, was optioned to Triple-A Nashville.
Other news
Lazaro Estrada (Blue Jays) and Gordon Graceffo (Cardinals) were recalled from the Minors.
Baltimore selected the contract of Albert Suarez.
Toronto returned Rule 5 Draft pick Angel Bastardo to the Boston Red Sox.
