With five days left until the Yankees and Giants open up the 2026 season, the Bronx Bombers demoted Jasson Dominguez to Scranton. Dominguez was one of several former top prospects to be cut on the day, as former first-round pick Dylan Crews will also start the year in the Minors.

Crews among Nationals

One day after Josiah Gray and others were cut from the Nationals’ spring camp, Washington optioned pitcher Jackson Rutledge and outfielder Dylan Crews to Triple-A Rochester on the 20th.

It was a very difficult camp for Crews, the second-overall pick by Washington three years ago. The outfielder slashed .103/.206/.103 with three hits, no extra-base hits, and 11 strikeouts in 12 games.

Additionally, Crews had a 43.8% Whiff% overall in Spring Training (as of 3/20), including a swing-and-miss rate on changeups over 70%.

Braves make cuts

JR Ritchie did not make the Braves, as he was one of five players to be reassigned to the Minors on March 20.

Additionally, the Braves demoted Jose Azocar, Ben Gamel, Sandy Leon, and Luke Williams. Pitcher Dylan Dodd was optioned to Triple-A.

In other Braves-related news, the New York Post reported that Rowdy Tellez signed a Minor League deal with the team.

Dominguez sent to Scranton

Jasson Dominguez was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on the 20th.

Unlike Crews, Dominguez didn’t have a bad camp on paper. He hit .325 with three home runs and five extra-base hits across 14 contests.

He did have an elevated Whiff% (30.2%). But the more pressing issue, at least when looking at the team’s roster, is that Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Trent Grisham round out the Yankees’ outfield roster, with Giancarlo Stanton scheduled to be a regular DH.

Dominguez wasn’t the only one sent to the Minors on the day by the Yankees. Pitchers Kervin Castro and Yerry De los Santos were optioned to Triple-A. Payton Henry, Ali Sanchez, and Kenedy Corona were reassigned to Minor League camp.

Releases

The Twins released three players who did not make the team out of camp: infielder Gio Urshela, plus relievers Andrew Chafin and Liam Hendriks.

Chicago (AL) cut Ryan Borucki, LaMonte Wade Jr., and Austin Voth.
