Camilo Doval is back with a familiar team, as the Giants re-acquired the hard-throwing reliever on September 24. Additionally, the Rays added some bullpen help with Jake Woodford, who will look to pitch for his third different Major League team this season.

Giants claim Doval off waivers

The Giants claimed pitcher Camilo Doval off waivers from the Pirates.

Doval returns to the club in which he was an All-Star for just a few years earlier. For several years, Doval was a dominant high-leverage reliever for the Giants but ultimately slid down the pecking order thanks to command issues.

However, he did get back on track in 2025 before the Giants shipped him off to the Yankees in a trade that netted San Francisco infielder Parks Harber.

The Pirates, the club that acquired Doval in August, designated him for assignment earlier in the week. Doval has one year left of team control.

Rays call up Woodford

The Rays selected pitcher Jake Woodford from Triple-A Durham.

Woodford struck out 23 over 26 innings this season combined, working between the Cubs and Brewers this year. Only two of those 18 outings he had at the MLB level came with the Cubs, though. He hasn’t worked in a MLB game since August 3.

Once he does get into a game, the Rays will be the sixth different club (Diamondbacks, White Sox, Pirates, Brewers, Cubs) he’s pitched with since the start of the 2024 season.

Recalls & options

Evan Sisk (Pirates), Bradley Hanner (Yankees), Spencer Bivens (Royals), Tyler Davis (White Sox), and Leo Rivas (Mariners) were recalled from the Minors.

Khristian Curtis (Pirates) and Mason Englert (Rays) were optioned.
