The Marlins, Rangers, Mets, Diamondbacks, and Cardinals were among the many teams to make spring roster cuts on March 15. And there were some notable names sent down, including Marlins prospect Joe Mack and Orioles pitcher Cade Povich.
Marlins cut five
Miami made five spring roster cuts on March 15. Kemp Alderman, Zach Brzykcy, and Jack Ralston were reassigned to Minor League camp. Pitcher Ryan Gusto and catcher Joe Mack were optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Mack, one of the best hitting prospects in the Marlins’ system, slashed .125/.222/.250 with seven strikeouts in nine games.
Rangers outright Diaz
The Rangers announced that reliever Alexis Diaz has been outrighted to Triple-A Round Rock. He has more than three years of service time, offering him the opportunity to test the free agent market again if desired.
Diaz was DFA’d after the Rangers signed reliever Jalen Beeks to a Major League contract.
Texas made additional assignments on March 15. Catcher Willie MacIver and pitcher Jose Corniell were optioned to Triple-A Round Rock. Jonah Bride, Gavin Collyer, and Cameron Cauley were sent to Minor League camp.
Cardinals demote seven
St. Louis optioned reliever Ryan Fernandez to Triple-A Memphis on the 15th.
Six non-roster players were reassigned to the Cardinals’ Minor League camp on the day, as well. Luis Gastelum, Gerson Moreno, Packy Naughton, Matt Koperniak, Blaze Jordan, and Jeremy Rivas were sent down.
Gastelum (Mexico) and Koperniak (Great Britain) both played in the World Baseball Classic.
