With two weeks left until 2026 MLB Opening Day, teams are looking for matchup left-handers. One day after ex-Ranger Danny Coulombe signed with the Boston Red Sox, Texas added free agent reliever Jalen Beeks on a short-term deal.
Beeks signs with Rangers
Per an official team announcement, the Rangers signed veteran left-handed pitcher Jalen Beeks to a one-year deal.
Beeks was one of the better relievers in baseball last season, as far as wOBA was concerned last season. His .271 wOBA ranked in the top-65 in the Majors last season, well above the league median.
For Beeks, he doesn’t throw hard, mainly sitting in the low-90s. However, he’s more of a finesse pitcher. Beeks has a three-pitch set between a fastball, changeup, and cutter, an arsenal that, on paper, works well against right-handed pitchers.
While he got nitpicked up and away from righties, his numbers overall, when looking at the spread across the strike zone, were pretty good against hitters from the opposite side.

It was left-handed hitters who’ve been able to get to him, particularly on the outer half of the plate, where he likes to live.

Alexis Diaz, who was signed in the winter by the Rangers, was designated for assignment.
