Another infielder was claimed by the Mets off waivers on September 15. That would be Christian Cairo, who was claimed from the Philadelphia Phillies. Additionally, the White Sox DFA’d pitcher Jose Urquidy, who landed with Chicago after starting 2026 with the Pirates.

Cairo claimed by Mets

The Mets claimed infielder Christian Cairo from the Phillies.

Christian, the son of former Met Miguel Cairo, was a Rule 5 Draft pick two years ago but has since bounced around the Guardians and Phillies over the past few seasons. He gets on base at a high clip, with a .378 on-base percentage with Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season. However, he does not have any MLB experience despite being a former Rule 5 pick.

Cairo was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.

Urquidy cut by White Sox

The White Sox designated Jose Urquidy for assignment.

Urquidy pitched in six games for the Sox and didn’t perform too badly. His seminal moment came on August 19, when he struck out eight Cubs over six scoreless innings.

He went four innings against the Pirates in his last outing last week, allowing two earned runs.

Kenny Piper (Rays), Tommy Troy (D-Backs), Tyler Davis (White Sox), Mathew Lugo (Royals), Vimael Machin (Rockies), Blas Castano (Rockies), and Easton McGee (Royals) were optioned.
