More players hit the free agent market on November 2, when action officially opened up. The Tigers added Kenley Jansen to the market but opted to keep Jacob Waguespack. Milwaukee and Baltimore, meanwhile, added notable names to the list of available players, including Gary Sanchez and Ryan Mountcastle.

Tigers bring back Waguespack

The Tigers announced that pitcher Jacob Waguespack was re-signed to a one-year MLB deal worth $1.3MM.

Waguespack was traded to the Tigers from Milwaukee in June and proceeded to work in 35 games, striking out 35 over 47 frames and posting a strong 2.49 ERA out of the bullpen.

New free agents minted on November 2

Speaking of Detroit, the Tigers released Bailey Horn and Sawyer Gipson-Long. Additionally, Detroit did not pick up the club option for Kenley Jansen, allowing him to become a free agent.

Ryan Mountcastle (Orioles), Leody Taveras (Orioles), Myles Straw (Blue Jays), Antonio Senzatela (Brewers), and Gary Sanchez (Brewers) also went to free agency.

The Giants released Tristan Beck.

Kjerstad, Koenig among outrighted

The following players were outrighted:

Hestonn Kjerstad is the most notable name on this list from a value standpoint. Baltimore selected Kjerstad in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft after a standout career with Arkansas. However, he missed much of his early pro career with myocarditis and never established himself as a big-league regular with the O’s.

Koenig spent much of 2026 in Triple-A after he was one of the Brewers’ key matchup left-handers in the bullpen.

Additionally, Rudy Martin Jr., Eric Wagaman, Corey Julks, and Dietrich Enns all elected free agency.

Waiver claims

The following players were claimed on November 2:

Perhaps the most notable name on the above list is Jose Butto, who was one of the big pieces acquired by the Giants for Tyler Rogers during the summer of 2025. But Butto only pitched in three games this past season, going on the IL in early April with arm fatigue. He did not pitch again in 2026.

Isaac Mattson, who had a mini-breakout season in the Pirates’ bullpen two seasons ago, is another.

Other notes

Tampa Bay traded relief pitcher Evan Reifert to the Astros. Houston also added catcher Cesar Salazar and relief pitcher Roddery Munoz to the club’s 40-man roster.

Outfielder Marco Luciano was selected and added to the 40-man roster by the Yankees.

The Mets designated Kyren Paris for assignment.

Also, on November 1, the Nationals acquired Nate Furman from the Giants for Minor League pitcher Tony Neubeck.
