While the Twins and Blue Jays are competing for a playoff spot, the two teams made a trade on July 10. Toronto acquired catcher/infield prospect Ryan Sprock in exchange for relief pitcher Tommy Nance.

Twins acquire Nance from Jays

The Twins bolstered their bullpen with Tommy Nance, whom the Blue Jays traded for Ryan Sprock and international slot money.

Nance was a highly effective reliever last season for what was a deep Blue Jays’ bullpen. While he wasn’t as dominant, the 35-year-old had a good year for the Jays. Nance struck out 34 over 33, and his .297 opponents’ wOBA ranked among the top half of relievers who pitched in at least 20 games this season.

Sprock was an eighth-round pick by the Twins last year out of Elon. He was just promoted to High-A after a very good year in Low-A. Sprock walked 49 times and struck out just 31 times, part of a year where he slashed .306/.436/.441 with five home runs and 19 extra-base hits over 65 contests.

A primary catcher who also saw extensive time at third base, Sprock also stole 14 bases this season.

Brewers bring back Wilson

The Brewers have brought back Bryse Wilson, as he signed with the club on a Major League deal on July 10.

Wilson only pitched in three games this season between Chicago (NL) and Philadelphia. Across those outings, he allowed seven runs and struck out eight over 9.2 IP.

He had an ERA north of 6.00 over 12 outings (11 starts) with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
